TNT forces San Mig to winner-take-all Game 5

MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text stretched its semifinals series with San Mig Coffee to 5 games by beating the Coffee Mixers, 84-81, in overtime at the PBA Governors' Cup on Wednesday.

The Tropang Texters are now tied with the Coffee Mixers in the best-of-5 series, 2-2, after scraping past the gritty San Mig Coffee during the extra period.

Paul Harris led Talk 'N Text in scoring with 22 points to go with his 13 rebounds, but it was the locals that delivered for the Tropang Texters in overtime.

Ranidel De Ocampo fired a triple, while Kelly Williams tipped it in to put Talk 'N Text on the drivers seat, 81-76, with barely 3 minutes to go.

Larry Fonacier and Jason Castro put the finishing touches to force a sudden-death Game 5 on Friday.

Talk 'N Text’s win ruined James Yap’s 23-point effort, including the floater that sent the game into overtime for San Mig Coffee.

San Mig Coffee was down 10-19 when Yap scored 8 straight points to pull the Coffee Mixers within 1, 18-19, in the first quarter. It was Danny Seigle’s turn to burn the hoops midway the second canto when he completed a series of plays that pushed Talk ‘N Text ahead, 31-26.

But Yap scored a pair of 3s, PJ Simon swished in a triple of his own and Marqus Blakely sneaked in an undergoal stab as San Mig went up by 4 points, 37-33, after two quarters.

The Texters were trailing by 5 points, when Paul Harris and Elmer Espiritu each connected from 3-point country to push Talk ‘N Text ahead, 52-51.

Barroca scored the next 5 points to bring the lead back to San Mig Coffee, before Espiritu trimmed it down to 56-55 going to the payoff period.

San Mig Coffee’s Marc Pingris pumped in a jump hook, but Jimmy Alapag sank in his charities and Fonacier rattled in a trey for Talk ‘N Text’s 60-58 advantage.

A 6-2 exchange between the two squads brought San Mig within 68-69, 6 minutes remaining until regulation.

Blakely fired a jumper in response to Castro’s triple to pull the Coffee Mixers within 2 points, 72-74. It was at this point when Yap escaped his defenders and fired a floater that forced the game into overtime.
