MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee forward Joe Devance has been named the PBA Player of the Week after helping the Mixers move closer to a berth in the finals of the PBA Governors Cup.
Devance averaged 14.0 points per game in two games against the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters to earn the Player of the Week plum for the period of June 16 to 22.
His contributions on the offensive end were sorely needed by a San Mig team that saw both James Yap and Peter June Simon slowed down by injuries.
“I’m just trying to play hard, do whatever it takes to get the win,” said Devance, as quoted by PBA.ph.
Devance scored 19 points – including 15 in the first half – in Game 2, which San Mig won, 93-85.
“We need one more (win) to close this series out. The team is playing great though offensively and defensively, and I don’t want to take any credit for the game,” he said. “It’s the team that’s playing well.”
“I’m just doing my part,” he stressed.
The Mixers lost Game 3 as TNT avoided the broom, but they have another chance to clinch a Finals berth Wednesday night in Game 4.
