MANILA, Philippines – Former NBA star Stephon Marbury is currently in the Philippines for a charity project aimed at helping Filipino indigents.
The 36-year-old point guard, who saw action with the Minnesota Timberwolves, New Jersey Nets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, said he visited the Philippines to help people with liver diseases.
He has also scheduled a meet-and-greet event for Filipinos who are known for being one of the most passionate basketball fans in the world.
Marbury, who currently plays for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association, arrived in Manila on Monday.
According to National Press Club president Benny Antiporda, a typical liver operation costs P4 million each. He said Marbury’s project will greatly benefit patients who could not afford the costs.
