Pinoy jin wins bronze in World Para-Taekwondo tilt

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino jin Gerard Datu won the bronze medal for the Open Male +75 kg category in the 5th edition of the World Para-Taekwondo Championships held in Moscow, Russia last June 21 and 22.

Ankhbayar Gankhuu of Mongolia took home the gold, while Abubakar Tolkhadov of Russia won silver. Datu actually shared the bronze with Turan Erdogan of Turkey.

It is the second time in five years that Datu participated in the taekwondo Paralympic event. He also won the bronze medal when he competed in the 2009 tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Datu, who is set to return to the country Tuesday night, is a taekwondo instructor at Fulbright Science School.
