Promoter Bob Arum and Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao
MANILA, Philippines – There are more options for Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao now that the Cold War seems to be thawing between rivals Top Rank Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum has recently mended fences with Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya, and the two promoters have discussed the possibility of promoting a fight card together.
Speaking to RingTV.com, Arum said the list of possible opponents for Pacquiao is now “larger than before” thanks to his improved relationship with the Golden Boy camp.
Some Golden Boy fighters who were previously thought to be off limits have now become potential opponents, including unbeaten boxer Danny Garcia.
But Arum also told RingTV that they are in “no rush” to sign an opponent for Pacquiao, who is likely to return to the ring on November 22 in Macau.
The “Pacman” is coming off a unanimous decision victory against Timothy Bradley Jr. last April, which allowed him to regain his WBO welterweight belt.
Other fighters who can be considered as potential Pacquiao opponents include Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, who is technically the mandatory contender for Pacquiao’s belt; unbeaten boxer Chris Algieri; and even little-known Argentine Luis Carlos Abregu.
