MANILA, Philippines – Having watched Adriano Moraes beat Japan’s Kosuke Suzuki, Filipino fighter Geje Eustaquio said he is confident that he could beat the Brazilian flyweight.

Eustaquio got himself a shot at the vacant ONE FC flyweight title after putting up a smart fight against Japan’s Kentaro Watanabe last week. He will have to get past Moraes to become the second Filipino world mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.

“Many people were saying that the winner would fight for the title, but we did not know for sure until (ONE FC CEO) Victor Cui informed us a few days before the [Watanabe] fight. It was definitely a big motivation for me because my dream is to be the first ONE FC flyweight champion,” he said in an interview with James Goydner of MMA Weekly.

Moraes displayed a superb ground game against Suzuki as he forced the Japanese to tap out via a triangle choke in the third round.

Eustaquio said he expects the same fight when he face the Brazilian in the cage.

“I watched the fight with Mark Sangiao, my coach, and we know that he will try to take me down and submit me and I will train hard at Team Lakay to make sure I am ready for that. I’m very confident I can beat Adriano Moraes,” said the fighter nicknamed “Gravity.”

Meanwhile, ONE FC has reached a deal with event promoter, AMC Live Group, to stage 10 events a year across China.

“China is the birthplace of martial arts like Sanda, Wushu, and Kung Fu and there is a rich martial arts tradition. ONE FC will be available to over one billion people in China alone and will bring adrenaline-pumping mixed martial arts action to ten different cities across the country a year,” said Cui in a statement.
