MANILA, Philippines – San Mig Coffee is still unsure whether “Scoring Apostle” PJ Simon will be able to suit up for Game 1 of their semifinals duel with Talk ‘N Text.
Simon, who averages 15 points a game, wasn’t able to play for the Coffee Mixers last Tuesday due to severe back spasms.
Fortunately, his team mates were able to step up that night and hacked out a 97-90 win to eliminate San Miguel Beer from the PBA Governors’ Cup.
San Mig Coffee will face Talk ‘N Text in the best-of-five semifinals and Simon’s presence will be crucial for the Coffee Mixers.
San Mig coach Tim Cone said Simon has recovered from back pain, but remains unsure if he will be fit to play by Thursday.
“He’s feeling better now, but we’ll see how long it will stick,” said Cone in the PBA website.
If Simon remains unavailable, the Mixers will have to do with their remaining pieces to force a win against the Tropang Texters.
“At this point in the playoffs, you just go out and win basketball games. Everybody in our team knows that we’ll do everything in the playoffs and that is to win,” said Cone.
“Whatever it takes to win, we’re gonna do it any given night. These guys are unselfish and that’s gonna be the reason for our success.”
