MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (GSP) will defend his title against No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks this November in Las Vegas.
MMA reporter Ariel Helwani confirmed that St-Pierre will be making the eighth defense of his title against the hard-hitting Hendricks on November 17.
Hendricks earned his shot at St-Pierre after putting together a six-fight winning streak, including victories over highly rated welterweight Jon Fitch and former interim champion Carlos Condit.
St-Pierre has been repeatedly linked to a mega-fight against middleweight king Anderson “The Spider” Silva. But the Canadian star is confident that Silva will lose his next fight, against Chris Weidman at UFC 162, rendering the mega-fight useless.
Meanwhile, Hendricks has already set up a game plan for his bout against GSP.
“I’ll tell you my game plan. I’m gonna hit you with my left. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to try to take you down. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to find a way to win. Easy as that,” Hendricks said in an interview with MMA Fight Corner last May.
No venue has been set for the welterweight title clash, although MMA Mania reported that it will likely take place at either the MGM Grand Garden Arena or the Mandalay Bay.
