MANILA, Philippines – Talk N’ Text and Barako Bull will clash in a crucial game as they fight for survival on Wednesday at the PBA Governors Cup.
According to PBA.ph, both squads need the win to carry over a competitive record into the next round where only 6 teams will advance.
The Energy (3-3) shares 5th and 6th places with Barangay Ginebra while the Texters (2-3) are at 7th.
“It’s a must-win game for both teams,” said Talk N’ Text coach Chot Reyes, stressing the importance of the game.
Reyes said they need to figure out a way to stop Barako Bull import Leroy Hickerson from scoring.
Hickerson averaged 31 points in his last two games with the Energy.
“The problem is we’re not playing anywhere near the level to compete versus the top teams as seen in our last few games,” said Reyes.
For Barako Bull coach Junel Baculi, consistency in defense is the key to beating Talk N’ Text.
“Talk n Text is an offense-oriented team, thus, consistency on defense is essential,” said Baculi.
Baculi said that with the absence of Danny Seigle, the team will be relying on veteran Willie Miller and Ronald Tubid.
Despite an injury-plagued lineup, Talk N’ Text snapped a two-game skid with an 80-72 beating of the Alaska Milk Aces last Saturday.
The Energy, meanwhile, needs to bounce back from a 100-90 defeat to Rain or Shine last Sunday.
