MANILA -- The Cobra-Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) q team bagged two gold medals at the first International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Dragon Boat World Cup held in China.
The Filipinos also took silver in the overall standings, as they defeated China’s powerhouse team in two categories. They won the gold for the Philippines in the 100-meters mixed standard boat category and in the 500-meters mixed standard boat category.
The Pinoy paddlers showed that they are not only fast, but can also play strong in long events.
It was clear that the team had the right strategy to receive the title as the "fastest paddlers in the world" as they were also able to set a new world record.
THe Cobra-PDBF team also won a silver medal for the 200 meters mixed standard boat, and a bronze for the 400-meter rally men’s and women’s small boat.
In the overall standings, the Filipinos emerged second against 12 other countries.
Cobra gave the team a P600,000 bonus, which will be used to build a new standard boat for practice runs.
Before the World Cup, the team was also able to win a gold medal at the Macau Asian Championships held the week before.
