Former PBA player Reed Juntilla fired 30 points to help the Zamboanga Valientes—Family's Brand Sardines beat Laguna Heroes—Khra Pipes 86-80 at Alonte Sports Stadium, Biñan in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Datu Cup Thursday night.
Juntilla, who last played for GlobalPort in the PBA, also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists.
The Valientes erased an 11-point deficit to overcome the Heroes despite the latter's home-court advantage.
Two-time PBA champion Denok Miranda led Laguna with 26 points.
Zamboanga shook off a bad start by outmaneuvering Laguna beginning in the second quarter where the Valientes outscored Laguna, 34-21.
Jonathan Parreno added 18 points for the Valientes, who also got 13 from JV Orera.
Juntilla said he is grateful to have performed well since 2013 when he last played high-level basketball.
“Nagpapakundisyon din ako sa Cebu before ako pumunta dito sa Manila kaya nakapagpakita ako ng OK na laro ngayon para sa koponan namin,” he said.
Juntilla is also glad the team clicked despite only having limited practice time.
“Bago lang nag-eensayo ang team namin. Two weeks lang ata, (buti) nakuha namin dito sa larong ito,” he said.
