MANILA, Philippines – TNT rookie Roger Pogoy, who is consistently lauded for playing like a veteran, earned PBA Player of the Week honors for the period of June 6-11 after another steady showing for the KaTropa.
The former Far Eastern University (FEU) standout showed no signs of nerves in Game 1 of TNT's best-of-five semifinals series against Barangay Ginebra last Sunday, as he scored 17 points including a booming three-pointer with under two minutes left.
Pogoy also played superb defense to help TNT seize a 100-94 win, and a 1-0 lead in their PBA Commissioner's Cup series.
Already a solid two-way player when he entered the league, Pogoy grew in confidence, thanks to stints with Gilas Pilipinas. Set to turn 25 on Friday, Pogoy edged teammate Ranidel de Ocampo and Star forwards Allein Maliksi and Aldrech Ramos for the weekly citation.
Helping the Cebuano shooter to have a seamless transition to the pros is TNT coach Nash Racela, who also called the shots for FEU back when they won the UAAP title in 2015.
TNT will be gunning for a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series when they play Ginebra on Tuesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
