MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will return to Manila on September 14-16 as part of adidas Basketball’s global tour for 2013.
It will be Rose’s first visit to the Philippines since playing in a pair of exhibition games in July 2011 during the NBA lockout.
In a statement, adidas said Rose will “engage his fans through a variety of activities, such as a basketball competition, a party, meet & greet opportunities and social media campaigns.”
High school basketball players from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, meanwhile, will compete in regional 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, with the winning teams getting the chance to meet and play in front of Rose.
A retail promotion across Southeast Asian markets will also run from July to August, giving customers a chance to win All-Access VIP passes to the D Rose Tour activities in Manila.
Aside from Rose, adidas will also bring partner athletes Dwight Howard, Ricky Rubio, John Wall and others to 14 countries in two continents in an effort to “grow the game and showcase the latest from adidas Basketball.”
The 2013 adidas Basketball summer tours begin in China on June 30 until July 5 with the Quick vs Fast Tour, featuring some of the NBA’s best young point guards including Wall and Rubio.
Lakers center Howard, meanwhile, will visit Seoul, South Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Chengdu and Beijing, China for his own D Howard Tour.
