MANILA, Philippines – Import Allen Durham drew praise from Barako Bull head coach Siot Tanquingcen after he put on spectacular performances in his first two games for the Energy in the PBA Governors Cup.
Durham replaced Eric Wise, who was only able to lead the Energy to a single victory in the conference. He made an immediate impact, registering a triple-double of 32 points, 24 rebounds and 10 assists in his very first game – a 122-98 win over GlobalPort.
He followed it up with a 28-point, 29-rebound performance to lead Barako Bull to an 88-74 upset over Talk 'N Text Tuesday night that allowed the Energy Cola to clinch a place in the quarter-finals.
"He makes a great difference," Tanquingcen said, as quoted by PBA.ph. "Kahit 'yung players nagkaka-kumpyansa tumira, dahil alam nilang ang lakas n’ya rumebound."
"Siguro mas-fit lang 'yung style niya sa amin than Eric," the coach noted. "Kasi, noong nawala si Dorian (Peña), parang donut 'yung team namin. Walang sentro."
"He's really a big help sa team namin."
Durham agrees that he fits in well with Barako Bull and takes pride in accomplishing the tasks that he was given by his coach.
"When I first got here, coach told me he wanted somebody who can really hold down the paint, get physical inside, and make life tougher for other bigs to score," he said. "That's the type I focused on, and that’s the type of player that I am."
"I just come out here and play hard. My teammates look for me and get me the ball when I'm in good position, and I just try to finish every time," he added.
With Durham in the fold, Barako has now won two consecutive games to hike their record to 3-5.
