MANILA, Philippines – Import Allen Durham towed Barako Bull into the quarterfinal round of the PBA Governors' Cup by helping the Energy Cola topple league-leading Talk 'N Text, 99-74, on Tuesday night.
Durham scored 28 points and brought down 29 rebounds to give Barako Bull its second-straight win.
The Energy Colas now have a record of 3 wins against 5 defeats, and placed at 8th with a superior quotient over Meralco and GlobalPort.
“It’s a good feeling [making the quarters] but we still have to keep working,” said Barako Bull coach Siot Tanquingcen in the league’s website. “I’ll be lying if I say hindi malaking bagay si Durham. Yung mga players namin naging kumpiyansa tumira dahil alam nila malakas kumuha ng rebound ang import namin.”
Durham, who was brought in as a late replacement for Eric Wise, made an immediate effect on the Energy Colas, starting with a sound victory against GlobalPort last Sunday.
“Not taking anything from Eric Wise. He’s a good player, but Durham is a better fit for us,” Tanquingcen said.
Talk ‘N Text was up, 45-38, after two quarters. But the Energy Colas caught up at the onset of the fourth quarter when Denok Miranda’s jumper pushed Barako Bull ahead, 62-61.
This paved the way for Keith Jensen and Jeric Fortuna to spark a 15-6 run that gave Barako Bull an 83-74 advantage just 1:51 remaining.
Paul Harris paced the Tropang Texters with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Talk ‘N Text now shares the top spot with San Mig Coffee with identical 5-2 slates.
