MANILA, Philippines – Petron Blaze, formerly the San Miguel Beermen, will have to change their import days before the start of the PBA Governors’ Cup.
Petron Blaze had chosen former Los Angeles Clipper Mike Taylor, but he suffered a pulled hamstring while practicing.
Noli Eala, who works for the San Miguel Corporation, broke the news through Twitter.
“Terrible news just in. Petron import Mike Taylor just suffered a pulled hamstring in practice. OMG! Ricky Harris to replace him.”
Petron had originally chosen Harris as their import, before changing their minds and going for Taylor.
Eala further tweeted that Harris will arrive Thursday afternoon. He will start practicing with the team on Friday.
Eala did not confirm if Harris will be Petron’s import all throughout the conference, saying that it all depends on how he fits with the team.
He also expressed disappointment over the situation.
“Sayang. Exciting player si Mike,” said Eala, referring to Taylor’s outstanding leaping ability and crowd-pleasing dunks.
He added that while Harris is a great leader and scorer, he may not be as experienced as Taylor.
Taylor had played 51 games for the Los Angeles Clippers, while Harris went undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft.
