MANILA, Philippines – NBA player and Gilas Pilipinas recruit Andray Blatche is already on his way to Manila.
Philippine team coach Chot Reyes said the Brooklyn Nets player, whose naturalization has been approved by the Philippine Congress, will arrive in Manila on Sunday morning.
Blatche even posted a tweet greeting his Filipino fans.
Blatche was granted Filipino citizenship by the Philippine Senate late last month, paving the way for his inclusion into Gilas Pilipinas which will compete in the FIBA World Cup in Spain this August.
The Senate approved on the third and final reading Committee Report No. 27 on House Bill No. 4084, sponsored by Senator Sonny Angara, with 20 affirmative votes, zero negative votes, and zero abstention. President Aquino will now only have to approve the bill to formalize Blatche’s Filipino citizenship.
Reyes said Blatche is scheduled to meet Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and may even watch the PBA games on Monday.
