MANILA, Philippines – Powerade's main man Gary David has been named the PBA Player of the Week for the period of May 28 to June 3 after leading the Tigers to victories over the Alaska Aces and the Talk 'N Text Texters.
In Powerade's two victories last week, David scored 29.5 points per game to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
With his help, the Tigers stopped a two-game losing streak in the PBA Governors Cup.
In an interview with PBA.ph, Powerade head coach Bo Perasol said he was not surprised with David's performance.
"Whatever performance Gary does on court is a direct result of the hard work he puts out in practice," Perasol said.
"Nothing is surprising. For Gary, hard work paves the road to excellence," he added.
David was quick to give credit to his teammates, especially to new import Omar Sneed, who was also vital in their two wins.
"Iyung game namin sa Alaska, napakahalaga dahil 'pag natalo pa kami doon, sa ibaba na kami talaga," David said. "Kaya ginawa namin lahat para manalo. Tapos may bago pa kaming import na maaasahan talaga."
"At sa game namin sa TNT, siyempre mataas ang morale namin at ang import namin may gustong patunayan. Kaya saludo kami kay Omar. Beteranong maglaro at ang winning attitude n'ya kakaiba talaga," he added.
Sneed has averaged 22.5 points, 16 rebounds and 7.0 assists in two appearances for Powerade.
Last week, the Powerade defeated the Aces, 114-97, before edging Talk 'N Text, 110-105. They now hold a 2-2 record, good for fifth place in the league.
