Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Anderson “The Spider” Silva of Brazil will likely make his return to the Octagon early in 2015, according to his manager, Ed Soares.
Silva, one of the greatest fighters of all time, broke his left leg while fighting Chris Weidman for the UFC middleweight title at UFC 168 last year.
“He’s definitely coming back,” Soares said of Silva, as quoted by MMA Fighting. “He’s feeling good, he’s training hard. Everything is good, man. Hopefully, we’ll see him back.”
While it is not out of the question for Silva to make a comeback later this year, Soares said it is more realistic to expect the former pound-for-pound king to return next year.
“We won’t see him back any earlier than the end of this year, or, most likely, the beginning of next year,” said Soares. “There’s always a chance, but as of right now, I think his mind is set on fighting at the beginning of next year.”
As for potential opponents, Soares feels that “The Spider” won’t lack for challengers.
“There’s Michael Bisping, there’s Cung Le. There’s Nick Diaz. Nick Diaz has said he’s wanted to fight him before,” Soares said. “You could argue that Nick Diaz and Anderson probably have some of the best boxing in MMA, so we’ll see what happens.”
