MANILA - Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire arrived in Manila Sunday evening after winning the WBA featherweight title against South African Simpiwe Vetyeka in Cotai, Macau.
Donaire arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 with his wife, Rachel, and their baby, Jarel.
Before leaving for the Philippines, Donaire, who suffered a nasty cut above his left eye, went to see a doctor in Macau. It required 11 stitches to close the cut.
Despite getting bloodied, Donaire still managed to pull off a technical decision against Vetyeka to claim the WBA featherweight crown.
Donaire said he previewed a video of the fight and saw that Vetyeka had some dirty moves.
But he is still willing to give him a rematch due to the abbreviated fight.
In an interview over DZMM, Donaire said he dedicates his win to all his Filipino fans.
Nonito said he didn't get much sleep the night after the fight, which is what he usually does after a fight.
He said his head feels much better now after being banged several times from head butts by Vetyeka during the fight.
The boxer said he will be resting for 2 weeks before he starts training again.
