MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine’s Beau Belga is included in Gilas Pilipinas’ training pool after his impressive performance in the PBA All-Star Game and the league’s goodwill match against the Shanghai Sharks.
According to the league website, the burly power forward will be the 13th member of the pool which will be flying to Lithuania for a two-week camp.
Belga will be taking the slot initially offered to Alaska Ace Calvin Abueva, who begged off due to scheduled knee injury treatment in Beijing.
Coach Chot Reyes said Belga has a chance to make it to the Final 12 who will be representing the Philippines in the FIBA Asia Championship this August.
“Siyempre, dahil member siya ng pool,” said Reyes.
Also flying to Lithuania are Marcus Douthit, Junmar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Ranidel de Ocampo, Marc Pingris, Gary David, Jeff Chan, Gabe Norwood, Larry Fonacier, Jason Castro, Jimmy Alapag and LA Tenorio.
Among the players who won’t make it to the Gilas lineup are Kelly Williams, Jared Dillinger, Ryan Reyes, Sonny Thoss and Greg Slaughter.
