MANILA – Alaska is set to grind it out against Star in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup as as the Aces press for an outright entry to the playoffs at the Cuneta Astrodome on Wednesday.
The Aces are reeling from a 6-game skid and is looking to settle for a 5-6 win-loss card when they tangle with the Hotshots at 7 p.m.
This makes Alaska a dangerous team, acknowledged Star coach Chito Victolero, whose Hotshots are looking to end the elimination round on top.
“We expected a grind-out game versus Alaska because both teams need to win for positioning in the quarterfinals,” Victolero told the PBA website.
“Proper mindset and focus are very important for this game. Going into the playoffs, we want to be more consistent on doing the right things, and this game will help us a lot in our preparation for the next level.”
Star currently has an 8-2 record, but Barangay Ginebra and San Miguel are close by.
Meanwhile in the 4:15 p.m. curtain raiser, the Beermen will square off against the Blackwater Elite.
San Miguel needs to win its last two games for a guaranteed top 2 finish.
"One win may get us there sa top two pero kailangan dalawa, para sigurado," said SMB coach Leo Austria.
It will be a non-bearing game for the Elite, who might play the role as spoilers.
"Nothing to lose sila, kaya the pressure is actually on us," said Austria. "So kapag pinag-combine nila iyung dalawang factors na iyon baka lalo silang ma-inspire para maging spoilers."
