MACAU - For the world title fight against South African champion Simpiwe “V12” Vetyeka, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. was first on the scales at exactly 126 pounds.
The Filipino Flash is very happy he made weight quite handily, not having to struggle unlike in past fights.
Donaire, a three-division world champion, feels very strong coming into the fight and confident of a victory.
Vetyeka also made weight, coming in at 125 pounds. He vows to bring back his belt to South Africa.
Vetyeka has 26 wins with 16 knockouts and 2 losses and he's coming off a victory against long-time champion Chris John.
“Hey what's up, fellows? I'm ‘V12’ the [WBA] super champion... I'm ready to rumble!” says the South African.
Donaire is also coming off a win against Vic Darchinyan. But he says he is in much better shape for this fight.
“I feel good that we got the weight perfectly,” says Donaire.
Promoter Bob Arum says it's a crucial fight for Donaire to show he is still in the class of elite fighters of the world.
“I talked to Nonito, he said that he had a great training camp and he's ready for this fight,” says the Top Rank Inc. executive.
The fight will be held at the Cotai Arena at the Venetian Macau on Saturday night.
