Lyceum teams take down foes in Fr. Martin Cup

MANILA – The Lyceum Philippines University A and B teams as well as the Enderun College Titans brought down separate opponents last Tuesday to stay in contention for semi-finals berths in the 20th Fr. Martin Summer Cup.

John Zuniga had 14 points, while Jester Ayaay and Raj Elmejrab each scored 13 for the LPU-A Pirates as they outplayed the RP Youth team, 84-77, at the St. Placid gym in San Beda.

The Pirates-A went on to earn their fourth win in five outings in Group B, where they are behind the UST Growling Tigers (6-0) in the standings.

The Pirates-A squad picked up momentum in the first quarter, taking a 24-14 lead. Allyn Malabanan and Zuniga then hit big buckets in the second period, powering LPU to a 44-39 halftime lead.

Meanwhile, Shane Ko had 13 points and Jeb Bulawan scored 12 for the LPU-B Pirates as they fought off the Ateneo-B Blue Eagles, 77-64.

Winston Baltazar was also crucial for the Pirates-B as he picked up the pace in the third frame, draining a triple and combining for 10 points with Ko as they moved away from a 33-all deadlock. Their efforts would help the Pirates-B take a 52-45 lead at the end of the third frame.

The Pirates-B picked up their fifth win in seven games in Group B, where they remain behind the unbeaten Perpetual Help Altas (8-0).

In another seniors game, Jordan Rios scored 18 points and Erwin Bernard added 10 for the Enderun Titans in their 69-48 rout of the PATTS College of Aeronautics Sea Horses.
It was the Titans’ fourth game in six assignments in Group A, where they are currently in third place.

In the juniors division, the San Beda-A Red Cubs won by default over Chiang Kai Shek, hiking their record to 3-1 in Group B and putting them in contention for a spot in the quarter-finals.
