LAS VEGAS, Nevada – South African world champion Simpiwe Vetyeka trained very well for his WBA featherweight title defense against Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire, according to Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum.
"All the reports we have is he's training very well," said Arum. "When he left South Africa, he made a very, very bold statement about how well he expects to do. We have pictures of him, photographs, and he is ripped and ready. He looks like he is in terrific shape."
Arum adds that Donaire may very well be in for a fight of his life, as he is expecting a tremendous battle at the Cotai Arena on May 31 in Macau.
"Ticket sales are going very, very strong, and we talked to Macau earlier this week and the Venetian people were extraordinarily happy," said Arum. "It's a great, great show."
"Nonito is in for the fight of his life, because the African Vetyeka is really a good fighter,” he added.
After the Donaire-Vetyeka fight, Arum will be lining up possible opponents for "The Filipino Flash," but stressed that Donaire needs to defeat Vetyeka on Saturday night.
Though the fight is not taking place in Las Vegas, the fighting capital of the world, oddsmakers can still bet on the Donaire-Vetyeka match online.
Numbers are in favor of Donaire at -400, and +300 for Vetyeka.
Placing a bet of $400 on Donaire will win a $100, while placing a bet of $100 on Vetyeka will win $300.
