MANILA, Philippines – The GlobalPort Batang Pier are looking for their first ever winning streak in the Pido Jarencio era when they take on the winless Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the PBA Governors Cup Sunday afternoon at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The Batang Pier equaled their win total in the previous conference after beating the Alaska Aces, 95-91, last Friday, and are now targeting back-to-back wins for the first time since Jarencio took over as head coach.

"Good start ito para sa amin," Jarencio told the league website after last Friday's victory. "At least, tied na kami ng last conference. May isang panalo na, at meron pang seven games."

GlobalPort, which languished in the PBA cellar last conference with a 1-8 slate, leaned on former UAAP Most Valuable Player Terrence Romeo, who fired 18 points in their win against the Aces.

Meanwhile, Rain or Shine is still trying to break into the win column, having lost to San Miguel Beer last Friday to drop to 0-2 so far in the Governors Cup.

Yet head coach Yeng Guiao insists the Elasto Painters are "not panicking and we're not discouraged."

"There are seven games left, and we'll try to get to the top four. If we can’t go to the top four, we'll avoid getting eliminated, and if we’re not able to make the top four, with this team, I think we could beat any other team playing twice," Guiao said.

"We'll do our best. Wherever we are, as long as we're not eliminated, we're okay," he added.

Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
