UST rips Lyceum
MANILA – College of St. Benilde pulled the rug from under Far Eastern University for an 81-74 win in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.
The Blazers unreeled a 12-7 run to complete a strong fourth quarter against the Tamaraws, who played minus Terrence Romeo.
Paolo Taha paced St. Benilde with 19 points, while Luis Sinco and Fons Saadvera chipped in 15 and 14 points each, respectively.
It was the Blazers’ third straight victory in seven starts for a tie with the Tams in Group A.
Meanwhile, University of Sto. Tomas drubbed Lyceum to bolster its quarterfinals bid in Group B, 93-86.
The Tigers’ relied on the scoring frenzy of Aljon Mariano and Jeric Teng who churned out huge numbers for UST’s fourth victory in seven games.
Mariano exploded with 31 points, while Teng had 27 to help the Tigers overcome a 13-point deficit.
This brought Lyceum to its sixth straight defeat.
