MANILA, Philippines – The Rain or Shine management believes the team will become a contender for the PBA Governors Cup title with Arizona Reid on their side.
The Elasto Painters stuck by their decision to hire Reid after letting go of prized import Jamelle Cornley.
“After we decided not to get Cornley, Arizona [Reid] was on top of our mind. Atty. [Mert] Mondragon has had an agreement with Arizona. We’re flying him by July 1,” said Rain or Shine co-owner Raymond Yu in the PBA website.
Rain or Shine has had playing experience with Reid in the past. They believe that pairing their current roster with Reid will bring their team to greater heights.
“He failed to bring us to the Finals (in the 2010-11 Governors Cup), but we had a different set of local players then. We have a more experienced team now. With Arizona as import, I do believe we’ll be there fighting to defend the title,” Yu said.
Rain or Shine has decided to ditch Cornley after the latter figured in a scuffle with Quezon City policemen.
Cornley played a vital part in Rain or Shine’s 2011-2012 Governors Cup title win and became the Best Import of that conference.
He is currently in negotiations with GlobalPort.
