MANILA, Philippines – Big man Junmar Fajardo came up big time in the payoff period to steer San Miguel Beer past struggling Rain or Shine, 97-92, in the PBA Governors' Cup on Friday.
The 6’11” Cebuano scored 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter to help the Beermen bounce back from their opening day loss to Alaska.
He also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Rain or Shine’s center Raymond Almazan, 18-5.
Reggie Williams also had a big game for the Beermen by tallying 29 markers and 13 rebounds.
The Beermen played catch-up early in the second half after Paul Lee and Almazan teamed up for the Elasto Painters’ 66-68 lead.
Fajardo, however, began asserting his inside presence in the fourth quarter and was even more dangerous when Rain or Shine’s big men Beau Belga and Almazan got ejected due to foul trouble.
San Miguel now has 1 win in 2 starts, while Rain or Shine has to settle for its second straight loss.
The loss ruined Arizona Reid’s 27-point effort for the Elasto Painters.
