MANILA, Philippines – Freddie Roach believes that the Manny Pacquiao-Brandon Rios fight in November will be a highly entertaining slugfest.
But he predicted that the Mexican brawler will eventually find his way to the canvass once the Filipino connects a knockout punch.
“I think Manny's power will prevail. We may knock him out along the way, somewhere. Obviously, a very good fight is gonna happen,” Roach said in an interview with Koncrete Jungle.
Roach said they decided to take on Rios because Pacquiao wants a challenging fight despite coming off a knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez.
He added that the Rios fight seems logical without Marquez in sight.
“Marquez won't fight in a rematch so we go somewhere else. So this is where we at,” said Roach. “We want to fight good fighters. We want the best fight we can get and Manny really wants to please the crowd. We want to entertain and this will be a very entertaining fight.”
The boxing trainer added that the brawler in Rios also suits Pacquiao’s style, noting that the rising Mexican star wants to take his opponent to a corner and exchange blows.
“He won't really be hard to find for Manny,” Roach said.
