MANILA, Philippines – Mexican fighter Aaron Herrera promised a victory over Filipino light-welterweight Jason Pagara when they meet in the main event of Pinoy Pride XX on May 25 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu.
Herrera, nicknamed “La Joya” or “The Jewel,” said he was not impressed by Pagara, who holds a 30-2 win-loss record.
“I’ve seen videos of Pagara, and there is nothing to be excited about it. I know how to handle Pagara,” Herrera said, as quoted by Edri K. Aznar in a Sun Star report.
“I came here prepared and 100% conditioned to win the title from Pagara… I came here to win by knockout or decision. No matter what happens, I’m going to win,” he added.
The bout against Pagara will be Herrera’s first since November 2012, when he defeated Jorge Pimentel via knockout in the first round.
It will also be his first fight outside of Mexico, but he told Ronnie Nathanielsz of Phil Boxing that he has no problems with the weather in Cebu.
Pagara, for his part, said he is also ready for the fight as his WBO International light-welterweight belt will be at stake.
