MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Denver Cuello, the reigning WBC international minimumweight champion, finally got a title shot against WBC world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong.
Cuello’s promoter Aljo Jaro told Philboxing’s Rene Bonsubre that both fighters have already signed the contract.
Jaro said they are now looking for a venue in Dubai, where the title fight will be staged.
Part of the agreement requires Cuello to be at 115 pounds 30 days before the fight, which takes place on June 28.
WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman earlier promised to grant Cuello a shot at the title as the Filipino is the No. 1 contender to the belt.
Cuello has long been the top contender for the minimumweight championship, but was asked to step aside by the WBC.
