Air21 import likes 'physical' PBA
MANILA, Philippines – Air21 import Dominique Sutton didn't mind the physicality in his first game in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), saying that he can can handle the pressure inside the paint.
The 27-year-old Express reinforcement posted 25 points to go with his 10 rebounds in leading Air21 to a 103-96 victory against Rain or Shine last Tuesday.
“It’s pretty good for the organization. It’s my first time here in the Philippines and playing for Air21, it felt good to get game number one. We got eight more to go, we’ll see what happens,” Sutton said in the PBA website.
“I like the physicality of the game, and coming here, I have to adjust a little bit.”
Prior to suiting up for the Express, the 6’5” banger played for Ikaros Kallitheas BC in Greece. He is grateful that he has contributed in a big way for Air21 despite a short practice time with the team.
“I took 10 days off, so coming in to get my wind back on the court, it felt pretty good,” he said.
Air21 coach Franz Pumaren said Sutton has given them added presence inside the paint and this enabled bigman Asi Taulava to move around and contribute more.
He, however, admitted that Sutton will still have to adjust to PBA’s brand of play.
“With Dominique, we established our inside presence aside from Asi being there,” said Pumaren. “He won’t be pushed around, but he still has to learn the style of play in the PBA.”
