MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxer Jason “El Niño” Pagara is going through intense sparring sessions to prepare himself against heavy-handed Mexican Aaron Herrera.

The 24-year-old Pagara will be defending his WBO interntional junior welterweight belt against Herrera on Saturday at the main event of Pinoy Pride XX.

“[Pagara] has been sparring very well and is prepared for a tough fight,” ALA Promotions patron Tony Aldeguer told Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

Among his sparring partners was lefty Jimrex Jaca, who is also scheduled for a 12-round WBO Oriental light welterweight title fight against Mexican Jose Emilio Perea.

Pagara also sparred with top boxers of the Philippine amateur national pool.

Meanwhile, Herrera has already arrived in Cebu for his title fight against Pagara.

The Mexican said in Rene Bonsubre’s Philboxing report that has already seen Pagara’s fight video.

He claimed not being impressed by the Filipino’s fighting style.

The fight takes place on Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu.

Pinoy Pride XX will be aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on Sunday starting 10:15 a.m.
