MANILA, Philippines – Gilas Pilipinas will enter the final stage of its preparations for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship as it embarks on a national tour with a PBA select team in July.
According to the PBA website, Gilas will be facing the PBA selection in three playdates.
The teams will first face off on July 19 in Davao, followed by a tiff in Cebu on July 23 and at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on July 26.
The series could serve as the coaching staff’s basis in naming Gilas’ final 12 for FIBA Asia
Chot Reyes’ pool is currently composed of Marcus Douthit, Sonny Thoss, Junmar Fajardo, Greg Slaughter, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, Ranidel de Ocampo, Gary David, Jeff Chan, Gabe Norwood, Larry Fonacier, LA Tenorio, Jayson Castro, Jimmy Alapag and Ryan Reyes.
Kelly Williams and Jared Dillinger won’t be able to join due to health problems.
Testing Gilas’ mettle are Calvin Abueva, Cyrus Baguio, Mark Barroca, Beau Belga, Alex Cabagnot, KG Canaleta, Jayvee Casio, Joe Devance, Chris Ellis, Arwind Santos, PJ Simon, Chris Tiu and Jay Washington.
Most of them were part of the PBA select team that fought the Nationals to a 124-124 draw in the last All-Star Game.
The FIBA Asia Championship, which serves as the Asian eliminator to the 2014 FIBA World Cup, takes place on August 1-11.
