MANILA, Philippines – Jeffrey Cariaso will make his coaching debut for crowd favorites Barangay Ginebra when the Gin Kings face off against the GlobalPort Batang Pier in their first game of the PBA Governors Cup Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Cariaso was tabbed as the Gin Kings’ new coach following a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Commissioners Cup, and he has spent the break between conferences teaching Ginebra the triangle offense.

"I'm really happy with their effort (in practice)," Cariaso told in its pre-game report. "I told them our triangle won't really feel good, and at times, it won't look good."

"But I told them to just stay with it, be patient with it, because once they get more familiar, it will be more comfortable," he added.

Ginebra will have Zaccheus Mason as their import, whom Cariaso describes as a "high-energy guy."

"His activity level is very high. A guy who won’t demand the ball, but when we need him, he can," he added.

GlobalPort, meanwhile, will feature returning import Leroy Hickerson, who has a tough task at hand as the Batang Pier went winless in the previous conference.

"Little by little, we're getting there," GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio said. "Dadating din na makaka-compete kami."

Game time is at 8 p.m.
