MANILA, – The Barako Bull Energy is off to a bright start in the PBA Governors' Cup after beating the Meralco Bolts in their first game, but face another stiff test in their next game in the form of the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers.

"Kailangan naming maghanda, mabigat ang next assignment namin," said Barako head coach Siot Tanquingcen in a report. "What can you say about them (San Mig), they're the champions for three conferences in a row."

Just last weekend, San Mig won the Commissioner's Cup crown by beating the Talk N Text Tropang Texters in a best-of-five affair. It was their third title in a row dating back to last season's Governors' Cup, and are eyeing not just a repeat but a Grand Slam as well.

"Malakas talaga," Tanquingcen said of the Mixers. "Alam naman natin na San Mig is chasing greatness. Grand Slam ang target nila. So kami naman, sisikapin namin na gawin ang lahat to prevent them from scoring a win against us."

Tanquingcen said it is unlikely that San Mig will lose sight of its goal, even if they are still celebrating their Commissioner's Cup victory.

"Knowing Coach Tim (Cone), he knows how to put the focus of his players back," said Tanquingcen. "Walang kaso kung ngayon, or sa latter part namin sila makalaban."

The coach is hoping to draw another sterling effort from import Eric Wise, who hit the go-ahead shot and an insurance free throw in their win against Meralco.

"Eric is a good player, and he's been here for weeks now," said Tanquingcen. “"He already saw the (Commissioner's Cup) finals. So I am hoping he wants to show off din against San Mig."

Though they are up against a very strong squad, Tanquingcen says his players will not “just lay down and die.”

"Laban kami," he stressed. "We'll do whatever we can. We’re doing everything as a team. Gusto namin mag-improve, kaya focused kami doon."

"Basta kami, ang gagawin namin is we will do what we can do. We want to end on top din, siyempre," he added.

Barako Bull and San Mig play on Wednesday.
