MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas (UST) bagged the general championship in UAAP Season 79 after finishing grabbing seven first place, nine second place, and three third place trophies.
UST ruled men's and women's beach volleyball, men's taekwondo, men's and women's judo, men's table tennis, and women's athletics. They also placed second in baseball, softball, women's football, poomsae, women's taekwondo, women's table tennis, men's and women's lawn tennis, and men's fencing.
They finished third in women's volleyball, women's fencing, and men's athletics.
De La Salle University ruled the UAAP's marquee sports – men's basketball, women's volleyball, and women's football – as well as poomsae and women's table tennis. However, the Green Archers fell short in the face of UST's superb charge in the second semester.
La Salle also captured runner-up finishes in women's basketball, men's swimming, men's table tennis, women's chess, and men's athletics. They wound up in third place in women's beach volleyball, baseball, women's badminton, men's judo, women's swimming, and men's lawn tennis.
Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University completed the podium, thanks to championship runs in men's volleyball, men's football, men's swimming, and baseball. They also settled for second place in men's basketball, women's volleyball, men's and women's badminton, men's judo, and women's fencing, while taking the third spots in women's football and women's taekwondo.
University of the Philippines, for its part, came in fourth place after title campaigns in women's badminton and women's swimming.
National University, which is tied with La Salle for most number of Season 79 crowns with five, finished in fifth place, followed by Far Eastern University, University of the East, and Adamson University.
