MANILA, Philippines – Andray Blatche had the night off when Gilas Pilipinas faced off against Vietnam in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship on Wednesday to rest a strained hamstring.
Blatche was in uniform but was not fielded in by Chot Reyes, who revealed that the naturalized center had suffered a slight injury.
"I think he tweaked his hamstring a little bit yesterday, but I think it's just a mild strain," said Reyes.
Even without Blatche, Gilas Pilipinas had little trouble against Vietnam, coming away with a 107-52 victory for its fifth straight win.
The Philippines is set to face Indonesia for the gold medal on Thursday, with a spot in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup on the line. Reyes assures that Blatche will be in action then.
"Hopefully, he'll be at 100% tomorrow," he said.
Blatche himself assured Gilas fans they have nothing to worry about.
"I'll be OK," Blatche said on his way out of the Araneta Coliseum.
Blatche is averaging 12.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in the tournament.
