MANILA, Philippines – Former world champion Jesus Geles of Colombia is eager to get back into the world title picture when he faces off against rising star Milan “El Metodico” Melindo of the Philippines.
Geles will fight Melindo in the main undercard bout of Pinoy Pride 14: Night of Champions on June 2 at the Resorts World Manila, which will feature WBO light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes in the main event against Felipe Salguero.
“Melindo is known to be a technical fighter,” said Geles in a PhilBoxing report. “I am also a technical fighter, and this will be a very interesting fight.”
“I am hungry and I am preparing myself to win,” he added.
Geles was awarded the WBO junior flyweight belt in April 2011, when former champion Giovani Segura vacated it. He eventually lost it to Ramon Garcia Hirales later that month.
The 24-year-old Geles insisted that he is “still young and hungry to retain my title.”
“At 112-pounds, I am comfortable. I learned a lot from losing my world title and it will surely help me win my fight with Melindo,” he added. “KO (knockout) or decision, I am preparing myself to win.”
The Pinoy Pride 14 card will also feature unbeaten Filipino prospect Genesis “Azukal” Servania battling Genero Garcia.
