Pacman eyeing former MVPs for KIA Team
MANILA – Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is excited to work with fellow sports legend Robert “Sonny” Jaworski, whom he would like to get as coaching consultant for PBA expansion team KIA Motors.
In an interview with veteran sports scribe Eddie Alinea, Pacquiao said he has had initial talks with the “Big J,” the former playing coach of Ginebra San Miguel.
The eight-division world champion said his possible partnership with Jaworski may not be limited to coaching.
“Marami pa akong naiisip na puedeng gawin ni Pareng Jawo para makatulong sa soon-to-be formed Kia team at sa kompanya mismo,” Pacquiao said in Alinea’s report to Philboxing. “And if he will agree, such planned partnership can go beyond coaching.”
“Si Pareng Jawo is the most successful playing-coach that came out, not only of the PBA, but Philippine basketball as a whole, kung kaya nga naisip ko na marami siyang maitutulong sa lahat na aspeto ng sport na papasukin ng KIA,” Pacquiao added.
Pacquiao and Jaworski became “compadres” after serving as co-sponsors in a wedding, reported Alinea.
Meanwhile, the fighting congressman also revealed he is setting his eyes on several players for his team.
“I have several names in mind, mga former slashers, three-point shooters at team men at mga top rebounders. Lahat sila naging PBA MVP.
“Sa bench pa lang all-star na,” said Pacquiao, who is also a pastor. “Malalaman nyo rin ang mga yun sa darating na araw.”
