Mayweather may be saving Pacquiao fight for last
MANILA – Marcos Maidana gave Floyd Mayweather Jr. a serious dogfight when they clashed for a welterweight title unification match early this month.
But Mayweather’s father, Floyd Sr., claimed the Argentine brawler doesn’t know how to fight despite having a pair of bombs for hands.
Floyd Sr. said Manny Pacquiao may even have a better chance of beating his son than Maidana.
“Oh for sure Pacquiao is the better fighter, Maidana can’t fight at all!” Floyd Sr., who currently serves as Mayweather’s chief trainer, said in On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
“He’s a wild MMA fighter, that’s what he is. He don’t have no craft, no abilities to do shit. He ain’t even got a good damn jab,” he said, referring to Maidana.
Floyd Sr. refused to acknowledge that it was “Chino’s” unorthodox, street fighting style that put Mayweather into trouble.
“Pacquiao ain’t technical, but he’s more technical than this man here. This man is not technical at all,” he said.
With regards to the elusive Pacquiao-Mayweather mega bout, Floyd Sr. said his son is probably saving that for last.
Mayweather is just three wins away from tying Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 unbeaten mark, and a possible victory against the Filipino superstar will be the icing on the cake.
“Well , I think he has to be 50-0 to surpass Marciano. They got three more fights, I’m more than sure that if Floyd gets to the 49, I’m pretty sure they’ll come up with that [Pacquiao] fight,” said Floyd Sr.
“If we fight Pacquiao, that would be last anyways. That would be the fight that’s going away, and that fight would probably be the biggest fight in the world. If Floyd fights Pacquiao, believe me, it’s gonna be the best for last.”
