MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Robert Garcia guarantees that fight fans will enjoy the upcoming welterweight showdown between his fighter, Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, and former pound-for-pound king Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao of the Philippines.
Rios finally got the big-time fight he was waiting for when it was announced that he will face Pacquiao on November 24 in Macau.
“Brandon can punch,” Garcia said in an interview with Max Boxing. “It’s a really good fight that the fans will enjoy.”
Moreover, both Pacquiao and Rios are in a “win-win” situation in terms of what their future holds following the bout.
“Whoever wins or loses, they still have great fights left ahead of them,” Garcia said. “Even for the loser. There’s the Tim Bradley-(Juan Manuel) Marquez winner. Ruslan Provodnikov.”
“Win or lose, there are so many good fights for both of them,” he added.
The bout is a risky one for both Rios and Pacquiao, but it is especially dangerous for the Filipino boxing icon.
“Nobody knows how Pacquiao is coming off that fight,” Garcia said, referring to Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Marquez last December.
“We get to see what Pacquiao comes out. Is he going to be in the place he was a few years ago? Maybe that helped him. Or maybe he is the fighter that loses everything after that,” he added. “It’s a tremendous risk he is taking.”
