Fr. Martin Cup: Knights gore Tams

MANILA, Philippines – Even without the Alas brothers, the Letran Knights got off with a 56-49 thrashing of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws last Monday in the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup held at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

With Jonathan Belorio and Carlo Lituania taking charge, the Knights wasted no time in taking control early and posting their fifth straight victory in Group B of the 18th Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament.

Belorio showed the way with 14 points, while Lituania banged in 12 for the Knights, who are now in the solo lead of their bracket.

Kevin and Junjun Alas, who were part of Letran’s core unit, had to sit out the game because of injuries.

In other matches, the University of the Philippines Maroons (2-2) got defensive gems from slotman Raul Soyud as they turned back the Lyceum Philippines University Pirates, 47-45.

Thirdy Ravena hit 20 points for the Ateneo Blue Eaglets, who crushed the National University Bullpups, 80-67, for their third straight win in the junior side.

La Salle-Zobel outplayed the Jesus is Lord Christian Foundation cagers, 78-56, while Far Eastern University-FERN downed the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, 66-44.
