MANILA, Philippines – Bali Pure star Grethcel Soltones and the players of the Cignal HD Spikers will not be participating in the "Clash of Heroes" on Monday, joining Creamline star Alyssa Valdez, and Pocari Sweat's Myla Pablo and Elaine Kasilag on the sidelines.
Creamline and Pocari Sweat earlier released statements announcing that their star players will not be allowed to participate in the fundraising event, citing injuries as well as the tight schedule of games in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
On Saturday evening, Bali Pure released a similar statement, saying: "We regret to inform you that Ms. Grethcel Soltones will not be able to participate in the Clash of Heroes event on May 15, 2017."
According to Bali Pure, the team was not formally informed or given "due courtesy" regarding Soltones' participation.
"Given the delay and uncertainty in the release of the ITC of our foreign players, the team is more than ever counting on the leadership of Ms. Soltones to help steer the team in the Premier Volleyball League," team manager Paulo Turno said in a statement.
"Had we been informed to ask Ms. Soltones to join the said event, then we could have made the necessary adjustments in our preparation for our games in the PVL."
Bali Pure will be playing on May 16th, with Soltones looking to help her squad bounce back after losing for the first time on Saturday against the Perlas Spikers.
"Ms. Soltones is expected to play a vital role both in the preparations for the said game as well as the game itself. Needless to say, she needs to concentrate her efforts on BaliPure for the time being," Turno said.
Bali Pure stressed its support for Philippine volleyball and wished that the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc., as well as the event organizers, can understand its decision.
Meanwhile, a source informed ABS-CBN News that players of Cignal HD "don't have the go signal for the Clash of Heroes."
Cignal players who are included in the national team pool are: Bonjomar Castel, Mark Alfafara, Peter Torres, and Lorenzo Capate.
Also not playing in the men's match are Ateneo's Marck Espejo and Ish Polvorosa, who have a standing invitation to the national team pool despite being initially snubbed.
