MANILA, Philippines – Former champion Mauricio Rua is looking at another crack at the UFC light heavyweight title, starting with a rematch against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in UFC 161.
Rua, who recently lost to Alexander Gustaffson in UFC on FOX, said he will use his past glories to motivate himself toward a title shot.
"Remembering my glories is wonderful, makes me feel good, and gives me more will to live up to that again,” the Brazilian striker said in Fighters Only.
In his 11 years as an MMA fighter, he has won the PRIDE Grand Prix and the UFC light heavyweight titles.
“It was an indescribable sensation, there are no words for it, especially because I got to achieve the dream of any fighter, which was to be both a UFC and Pride FC champion," said Rua.
He hopes to repeat against "Lil Nog" whom he beat via unanimous decision in the quarterfinal of the 2005 PRIDE middleweight grand prix.
It is considered as one of Rua's greatest MMA battles, having been named as the 2005 Fight of the Year.
UFC 161 is set to take place in Winnipeg, Canada this June.
