San Mig overpowers TNT in Game 1
MANILA, Philippines -- San Mig Coffee came up with a huge victory against erstwhile unbeaten Talk 'N Text to take Game 1 of their best-of-5 title series in the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Friday.
The Mixers' 95-80 win ended Tropang Texters' win streak at 13 games.
Taking advantage of Talk 'N Text's week-long break, San Mig Coffee stymied the Texters' inside offense and forced the Manny Pangilinan-owned franchise to settle for perimeter shots.
But the Texters could not get their outside game going and were held to their lowest conference output of 80 points.
Two-time Most Valuable Player James Yap was the most effective in scoring for the Mixers, tallying 17 points.
PJ Simon added 16 points for San Mig Coffee, which also drew 12 each from Mark Barroca and Ian Sangalang.
Jayson Castro paced Talk 'N Text with 17 points, but Best Import candidate Richard Howell only mustered 11 markers for the Texters.
San Mig coach Tim Cone, however, said that they didn't play the best version of Talk 'N Text.
"We didn't see the real Talk'N Text tonight. They weren't themselves tonight," said the former Alaska coach.
The title series joust will resume at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday at 5 p.m.
