MANILA, Philippines – A one-day chess tournament, dubbed the 2012 Bulacan Summer Chess Festival, will be held on Saturday, May 12, at the SM City Marilao in Marilao, Bulacan.
The tournament will have two divisions: Elo rating of 2050-and-below for non-masters and a kid's division for players 16-years-old and below.
The winner of the non-master division will receive P4,000 plus a P1,000 SM gift check and a trophy. The second, third, fourth and fifth placers will get P2,000, P1,000, P700 and P600, respectively, plus medals.
There will also be separate categories for top lady player, top junior player (20-years-old and below), top senior player (55-years-old and above) and top Bulacan player, with the winners receive P500 each plus a medal.
Meanwhile, the winner of the kid's division will receive P2,000 plus a P500 SM gift check and a trophy. The second placer gets P1,000 and the third placer gets P700, plus trophies.

The 1973 batch of the Quezon City High School (QCHS) will be staging a separate chess tournament for non-masters on May 26 at SM Novaliches.
The one-day affair is open to all untitled players and offers a top prize of P7000 for the eventual champion.
According to Julie Choy, president of QCHS Batch ’73, the tournament is one way of providing worthwhile activities this summer, especially for the youth. It will be organized by the Novaliches Novelty Chess Club.
