Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao responded to Muhammad Ali's calls for a Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather superfight by calling the legendary heavyweight champion "The Greatest."
Ali had joined calls for a mega-fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather on Sunday, tweeting: “Congratulations, Floyd Mayweather. Maybe after you rest up, we can see you rumble with Manny Pacquiao.”
Ali’s tweet had come after Mayweather beat Argentine’s Marcos Maidana to remain undefeated and unify a pair of welterweight belts.
Two days later, Pacquiao responded: “God Bless You, Muhammad. YOU are The Greatest!”
The unbeaten Mayweather has so far not responded to either Ali or Pacquiao.
Pacquiao has repeatedly said that he is open to a fight against Mayweather, but admitted on Tuesday that the timing may not be right for the American superstar for the fight.
Pacquiao again stressed that the fate of the mega-fight so desired by Ali and other boxing fans is at the hands of Mayweather, because he is ready to fight the American anytime.
“Depende sa kanya (ang laban),” he said.
