STA. CRUZ, Laguna, Philippines – Two-time hosts Koronodal City wants to bring the Palarong Pambansa back to its fold next year.

Koronadal City Mayor Peter Miguel yesterday said they are hoping the Department of Education will recognize the city’s “vast experience and expertise” in hosting the annual multi-sports event for elementary and high school students and give them the hosting rights for the 2015 edition.

Koronadal had hosted the meet in 1996 and 2007. It has recently built new sports facilities and improved the billeting areas for expected 10,000 participating athletes.

“Our experience in hosting the Palarong Pambansa plus several additional sports facilities are our trump cards in our bid,” said Miguel, a second-termer Mayor who is a medical doctor by profession.

Miguel said they will tap boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who is a Representative of nearby Sarangani, and former PBA superstar and now Adamson coach Kenneth Duremdes as their ambassadors.

Expected to challenge Koronadal for the hosting rights are Tagum City, Surigao, Agusan and Cagayan de Oro City.
